Shelly Lyons
“I was limited to walking for movement,” said Shelly Lyons, an allograft tissue recipient. Being an extremely active teacher, mother and lover of the outdoors, Shelly had a difficult time being restricted to no sports or any of her other routine activities.
One day, while playing Ultimate Frisbee, a favorite pastime of Shelly’s, she tore her ACL. “We live a very active lifestyle – biking, hiking, kayaking, playing badminton and Ultimate Frisbee,” she said.
Due to this injury, this pastime quickly came to a halt as she couldn’t squat down, sit, cross her legs or bike. “My knee was very unstable, and I needed to wear a brace all the time,” Shelly said.
Due to an ACL replacement, she can now walk again with a full range of motion. “I feel happy and whole again,” she said. “I am simply back to normal again and so very grateful!”
Shelly said she is very grateful for the gift of life, and she is proud to have registered to be an organ and tissue donor herself.
