Voices of Donation
Megan Silcox
Fourteen-year-old Megan Silcox of Newberry, Fla. was playing in her very first high school soccer game when she suddenly tore her ACL.
Today, Megan is preparing for next year’s soccer season thanks to the generous gift of a stranger.
Through a tissue transplant, doctors were able to repair Megan’s knee and she is well on her way to a full recovery.
“Before I got the transplant, I wouldn’t have been able to start doing physical therapy to get my knee strong again. I would have had to be on crutches for a long time and never get to play sports again,” Megan said. “Now that I have had the transplant, I am very excited that I am going to be able to play soccer next season. My knee is doing really well now, and I am moving along with my recovery very quickly.”
Megan said she is touched by the decision made by a stranger’s family to donate tissue. “I couldn’t thank their family enough for this, because they not only helped me get back to doing what I love most, playing soccer, they also helped out my whole entire life,” Megan said. “I will never forget their importance in this experience.”
Megan especially wanted to thank her family, teammates, RTI Donor Services, her therapists and surgeon. “I could not have made it through this experience without each of their support and help.”
