Voices of Donation
Martin Colunga Jr.
Martin Colunga, Jr. took his own life at the young age of 28. “He was my husband and my best friend,” said wife Maria Amador. “He was a very loving husband and father and was loved by a lot of people,” she said. “He had the prettiest smile.” Martin is the father of three children -- Brianna, 10, and Mark and Martin, 9.
“Martin’s nickname from me was ‘hun,’ Maria said. “He was MY hun. Martin was a unique and wonderful person and his family misses him dearly.”
Maria said that after Martin passed away, she was asked by the hospital if the family would be interested in donating his tissue for the benefit of others. “It seemed like the right thing to do,” Maria said. “Today, I am very happy with my decision and so are my children.”
“My husband’s donation helped others, and my kids love it when they see mail come from RTI Donor Services,” Maria said. “They are so happy their Daddy donated. I know God is pleased with my decision and my hun is looking down on me.”
